Remembering the Lord's Blessings

I will remember the works of the Lord: surely I will remember thy wonders of old.
I will meditate also of all thy work, and talk of thy doings. -Psalm 77:11-12

A couple of Sundays ago we had arrived back to church from ministering at the local nursing home and had 45 minutes until the afternoon service. I went upstairs to the sanctuary to retrieve my purse I had left in a pew. I found the sanctuary dark and empty; Instead, I walked up to the front and took a seat on the stage overlooking the pews. This day had marked a year since we had started attending our church. My mind went back a year ago and I thought on what the Lord had done since then....

A year ago we had been looking for a home church. I remembered what we were going through at the time. We were visiting churches Sunday after Sunday and had been doing so for over a half of a year. I was so tired of looking for a church and was ready for a place to call home. I was getting frustrated and waning in my spiritual life as well. We had visited many different churches but none of them we felt was where the Lord wanted us. My family and I were greatly desiring and praying that God would give us a home church soon---one who had a sincere desire to honor God above all else and that was led by the Scriptures alone. We kept praying...

After many, many months of searching and prayer, God led us to our church and answered us and gave us our desires. Our church is more than I could have asked for! It has been one of the greatest blessings in my life. I have grown in my walk with the Lord more than I have any other church we have been to. We have been blessed with wonderful teaching from the Word of God and wonderful fellowship with fellow believers. Pastor Barry and Mrs. Debbie have inspired me greatly in the things of the Lord through their examples, teachings and friendship. They love the Lord and they love people. I am so grateful for them and they both are very dear to me. They really do inspire me. God couldn't have given us a better pair.

I love everyone else in our church and congregation. I am so thankful for a place to meet weekly with other believers who love the Lord. We have made some special friendships and it is such a blessing to "provoke one another to love and good works," and to "exhort one another."

It is such an encouragement to look back and see how God has blessed us and how He's grown us. I am completely in awe in how He works and all He does.

Let me tell you: God answers prayer! If you are trusting the Lord for something, my encouragement to you is to keep praying. Don't give up. I'd also encourage you to look back on your life and see how the Lord has blessed you. That's why I think journaling is so special. It's a great thing to look back on God's grace and see what He has done.

What has God done in your life? What prayers has He answered? Don't forget His goodness and don't forget to thank Him.

God is faithful and He is good to His children. How I love being His child and how grateful I am for His blessings. A church that is built on the Word is such a precious thing and I am so thankful to be a part of one!

Now unto Him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us. Unto Him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus throughout all ages, world without end. Amen.
Ephesians 3:20-21

Let us hold fast the profession of our faith without wavering; (for he is faithful that promised;) And let us consider one another to provoke unto love and good works: Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching. Hebrews 10:23-25

Hi, Brook!
I'm SO glad that your beesting has healed! Answer to prayer!

I really enjoyed this post about finding your home church. I remember "church shopping" many years ago. Yuck. We were blessed in that the Lord led us to our new home after only a few weeks (a few weeks of almost constant prayer!). It's good to hear that your family has found a home with a solid foundation. It's can be hard to find nowadays.

Yes, we are missionaries in Mexico and the Mexican Redhead is my oldest daughter. We've been here almost 3 years, so it's really starting to feel like home!

Have a great weekend!

I'm so glad you have a church like that. I wish there was a church or at a least a church "family" around here but there isn't. I suppose our online family makes up for that. lol

My family just left our former church this past January, and I am sooo thankful that we were able to find our new church quickly. We joined a month or so ago, and I have loved this church soooo much - God is so good.

Anyway.... I need to go get started on school. You have a great day! In Christ, Erica

Oh what a blessing this was to read. We have been searching for a church since 2002. We have gone to about 3 others since then, but have left each one because of various reasons.
I know how hard it is to be without a church and I am so glad for you that you have a "home church"! It really is a blessing!
We are still praying for God to show us where He wants us, but I don't think its around here!

I try to read Stepping Heavenward about once a year, so I can have some encouragement and evaluation in my life!

I am so blessed to hear that you were so encouraged by my comment! What are friends for! :)

Love ya,
Amanda

Hello Brooke!

Yes... me, the one who always liked blogging and playing with templates and all that... really doesn't put blogging very high on her priority list anymore. I don't think it's due to laziness; I find so much else to fill up my day that computer time is limited. I'd really rather it be that way, but then I feel a bit bad for not blogging. Oh well. :)

Being a midwife is still something that interests me, but I'm not sure if it's what I'm really supposed to be working for. Yes, I want to have the knowledge. But to actually go to school, (Either literally or through distance learning), and get certified? I don't know.

My Blogspot blog is the one where I blog the most. :) I believe I've deleted all the other except for HSB.

What a great post! I'm so happy for y'all that you have a church that you love! In the four years we've been here, we've only had a church where we felt at home for one year. We haven't been there since this spring. I miss having that a lot: I miss the Sunday routine, being challenged in my faith, and I miss the pastor's sermons. He was really good!

Your posts always remind me to thank God. :) So thank you for that!

My comments here always end up so long! Eesh. :)

Hugs,
Becca
